My vision as the principal for Preschool and Fritids
Together we will continue to develop both the preschool and the fritids (before and after school care) program at ISH. The collaboration between and valuing of all staff members contributions will be key to keeping the team strong and happy. This will also require me to continue to develop my oral and written communication skills, to have a clear and shared vision of the goals for both programs and for me to continue to be reflective on my growth as a principal.
Learning is an active task that happens when children feel safe and nurtured, they have a voice and choice and the opportunity to engage socially with peers and trusted adults. In the early years, learning in child centred and play based. This means that activities and the environment are planned to provoke wondering, inquiry and the students exploration of the world around them as well as the desired learning outcomes. Play based learning is not bound by cultures or academic ability enabling each child to be on an individual educational journey. Play based learning emphasises the developmental growth of understanding and the building of positive social relationships.
Other factors that impact on learning are; positive relationships, partnerships with families and the environment. This also applies to the relaxed extra curricular clubs in Fritids. Not all Fritids clubs have an educational goal, however they provide the opportunity and the environment for the development of communication, social and self management skills. They provide multiple opportunities for students to explore new interest, develop life skills, such as cooking and sewing as well as positive relationships that are not bound by age or academics.
